Hello and welcome to my
webpage! I am a 25 year old graduate student in Chemistry at Penn
State University. As a fourth year member of the Paul Weiss
Research Group, I am currently investigating the atomic- and molecular
scale interactions of hydrogen, deuterium, and organic heterocylces on the
surface of palladium using an ultrastable low temperature scanning tunneling
microscope (STM). To this extent, more specifically, I am designing a
novel experimental system to test the palladium-hydride (subsurface hydride)
catalytic model toward hydrogen storage, transport in hydrogen energy
materials, its role in metal embrittlement, and in catalytic
reaction. I have included a link to a more detailed description of
this work, along with relevant publications, posters, and meeting
dates.
I received my B.S. in Chemistry from Ithaca
College in May of 2003. My undergraduate research, under the supervision
of Heinz Koch, focused on investigating the kinetics of proton exchange
reactions of fluorinated aromatic compounds that we synthesized
in-house. If you go to the Ithaca
College Chemistry website, you'll find
more interesting information regarding this and other ongoing projects (as
well as some old pictures of me with a buzz haircut. Yikes).
Aside from Chemistry, I'm an avid pianist of both Jazz and Classical
styles. I have performed with the Ithaca College Jazz Lab, Inner
Dimensions Jazz Ensemble at Penn State,
Valley Jazz Orchestra of Centre County, and various small ensembles in Ithaca,
Philadelphia, and State
College. It keeps me off the streets and out of
trouble, and it's a great way to clear my head and motivate me into thinking
about critical scientific problem-solving!
